  • Being a parent is the most important job there is. The free, voluntary Blue Valley Parents as Teachers program is designed to help district families with children birth to age 36 months.

From the beginning, the Blue Valley Parent Educators support parents with the knowledge and skills to do a good job. As their child's first teachers, parents make a difference.

For parents with a concern about their child's development, hearing or vision, the district provides access to monthly screenings for all children. Registration in the Parents as Teachers program is limited.

  • The Peer Model Program provides an opportunity for typically- developing children to be integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education classrooms to serve as role models for our children with special needs.

Peer Model students provide positive peer interactions, demonstrate play skills and model appropriate language and behavior for children with special needs while in the classroom setting. We have a limited number of slots available for Peer Models.

  • Children who reside in the Blue Valley School District and turn 5 years of age by August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten that school year.

The K-5 program provides developmentally-appropriate experiences for academic and social growth, including reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, music, physical education, health

    and

    technology education.

The YMCA provides family-paid before- and/or after-school care at all Blue Valley elementary schools.

  • Middle school is designed to meet the diverse intellectual, social, physical and emotional needs of young adolescents. Academic programs include science, social studies, mathematics, reading and language arts, health and physical education.

Additionally, middle school students choose from an exploratory program, including speech and drama, pre-engineering, family and consumer sciences, computer technology, world language, visual art, vocal music, band

    and

    orchestra.

  • All of Blue Valley's high schools offer a comprehensive secondary program accredited by the state of Kansas. High school students must successfully complete 24 units for graduation. The Course Description Guide provides detailed information about course offerings and other learning opportunities. Course description guides are available here.

A full program of interscholastic, athletic and activities are available. Teams compete in the Eastern Kansas League. Students may also participate in performing arts, debate

    and

forensics, cheerleading/drill team, student leadership, clubs, journalism and honor society.

  • REQUIRED FEES

Blue Valley Schools charges a variety of required fees, which are reviewed annually and revised as necessary. A $2 non-refundable service fee is charged for all debit/credit card payments. The service fee is collected by the third-party processor to cover the processing of payments, similar to online banking fees. Families continue to have the option to deliver check or cash payments to the school office.

These fees include, but are not limited to:

    Learning Resource Fee

(Early childhood, elementary, middle and high school)
Collected at a rate of $115 per student, this fee is primarily used to purchase materials and supplies that support educational initiatives in the classroom.

    Activity Programming Fees

    (Middle and high school)
The activity programming fee is collected at a rate of $25, sixth grade; $55, seventh grade; $90, eighth grade; and $135, 9th-12th grades. Please note there will be a $250 maximum payable amount for families with multiple Blue Valley students. This fee helps support all sports, activities, clubs and other supplemental contract items that require extra-duty supervision from qualified district staff. It only covers a portion of the costs for a student team activity and does not replace fees currently being charged for programs such as drill team, cheerleading, certain clubs or sports.

At the conclusion of the academic year, the activity programming fee may be refunded, upon request, to any student who did not participate in any KSHSAA or non-KSHSAA activity, school club or any other non-required activity which was offered at the school. All refund requests must be submitted between May 1-31 of the academic year for which the refund request is being made. All refunds must be approved by the building principal.

    Exploratory/Elective Fees

    (Middle and high school)
Certain exploratory/elective courses include additional fees as noted in the respective Program Planning/Course Description Guides. Fee amounts will be finalized and assigned when official schedules are available in August.

    Fee-Based Programs

Blue Valley offers a fee-based early childhood peer model program. Contact Hilltop at (913) 624-2900 for more information.

NOTE: While Blue Valley Schools receives the majority of its funding from the state of Kansas, the law allows school districts to charge back for certain expenses, including those listed above. District required and middle school exploratory fees will be waived for students who qualify for free and reduced lunches through the Food and Nutrition Services program; high school level elective, CAPS, and virtual course fees cannot be waived regardless of the student's free and reduced status. Payment plans are also available for families who do not qualify for free and reduced lunches. Please contact your school's bookkeeper for more information.
