  • David & Nadia, Hoë - Steen Chenin Blanc | 2019

A Steen vineyard planted back in 1968 on the western part of the Swartland on route to Darling, in deep iron rich coffee stone clay soils, makes for one of their single vineyards which we started working with in 2013/2014. This vineyard is a mixed bag of vineyards propagated in the 1960’s and has its own character. This is their last white vineyard for picking and takes a couple of months to finish fermentation due to the change in temperature after harvest in the Swartland. Hoë-Steen is their third wine qualifying for the Old Vine Project (OVP) seal, celebrating the block’s fiftieth birthday this year. Whole bunch pressed, minimal sulphur during short cold settling for the juice before being racked to barrel for spontaneous fermentation (including malolactic fermentation). The wines ages from vintage to vintage in old 300 L French barrels. Bin:5008

Deep gold. The increased skin contact has made this an even more exciting wine than the first two vintages, enhancing the honeyed character of the variety. All that spiced orange on the palate becomes more honeyed and spicy on the long finish, yet bone dry. Delicious. Bin: 7002

Little about López de Heredia has changed in the 125 years since its founding. The family adheres to a winemaking doctrine blueprinted in the 1880’s — to make wine only from their own vineyards, using natural yeasts, long aging in wood, and no filtration at bottling. The Cubillo is a slightly different blend from the standard, being 65% Tempranillo and 25% Garnacha, with the rest Mazuelo and Graciano; this is Lopez de Heredia's entry-level red, a super-dry, lighter styled red that has good fruit but an equal amount of scorched earth, tar and licorice components. Many of the plantings on these steep 1.6 hectares date back to 1910, placing them among the oldest in the region. L’Arbossar is an homage to both tradition and daring, marked by an elegant interplay between sun, shadow and the very wind that runs through the vines on these steep, 400-meter-high llicorella slopes. • Domaine Dufouleur, Nuits Saint Georges Cuvée du Château | 2018

Nuits-Saint-George is crossed by the Combe de la Serrée which divides the terroir of this appellation into two very different parts. The different village-level climats cultivated on the estate, located on both sides, come together harmoniously in a "cuvée ronde", thus seeking rather balance than the expression of their respective singularities which are sometimes too marked.
