Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, beautiful decoration, lovely rooftop bar. The only ”problem” I could mention is that the hotel is located in front of a very busy street and it can be quite noisy from early morning till very late at night - I'd recommend talking to staff prior booking if you need silence. The hotel also owns a SPA, small cinema, library and many other intersting common areas, and offered yoga classes twice a day during my stay. Really, really nice! Lapa does seem dodgy and it can be dangerous. Usually there are cops around as the neighbourhood is quite famous for Selarón Staircase, bars and music venues. As a local, I'd say: mind your surroundings, avoid showing off cellphones and jewls, and pick up a Uber if you feel insecure! In general, Selina is located in a very central area with buses and subway (~10min walk).

What I loved about Selina Lapa was its location, perfect for young and/or solo travellers. I booked a suite and the room was spacious with a great view. The atmosphere is very lively and it combines work/leisure quite well. However, I think the service needs to be improved: my room was never cleaned if I didn't personally ask for it at the reception (the ”please clean my room” sign over the door handle is apparently ignored every single day). I stayed for 6 nights in a private suite and I had to ask for it to be cleaned everyday, one day I had to ask twice and some days it wasn't cleaned at all. Breakfast options are very limited (you get 2 choices) and the staff seems constantly confused and unaware of what to serve to whom. They don't seem to be trained or organized (one waitress looked at me extremelly confused when I made my order, only to return a few moments later to say she couldn't help me). They either need to hire more people or just train their staff to better serve customers. Other than that it was a pleasant experience.

O local é muito charmoso. Organizado. Limpo. Oferece um café da manhã maravilhoso no Flora (com uma vista maravilhosa). A equipe super simpática. Não tenho a reclamar. Escolheria novamente com certeza. Falando do quarto. Ficamos no quarto de casal vista para praia de Copacabana. Pelas fotos achei que seria menor e me surpreendeu. A cama é super confortável bem macia.

I have stayed at this property for 3 nights. I was meant to stay for 6 but I have decided to change plans. Overall I found my stay disappointing. Pre-arrival: good communication through WhatsApp and Booking.com On arrival: not a good experience - duplicate preauthorisation from my card for the 6 nights plus extra. The terminal did not produce a receipt and the receptionist insisted I have to put the card through again, although I have shown her an instant message received from the bank saying the transaction went through. At that point, I have been traveling for 18 hrs therefore I couldn’t spend more time arguing about it. I was reassured it was not a duplicate payment/preauthorisation and if any mistake, this will be sorted in the morning with “finance team”. Next day, I have tried to sort this with various reception staff to no avail. They simply denied there is an issue and refused to discuss the matter further. At one point, I was standing in front of the reception being ignored. I have contacted the bank in the UK and they sent me a confirmation that finally led them to cancel one of the duplicate payments. I have wasted an entire day of my holiday on this. Reception staff - with some exceptions- are very cold and distant, even arrogant. Very rare you see someone smile and make you feel welcome. No apology was offered to me for the mixup with the payment and the very unprofessional way this was dealt with. Staff enters the room way too much. Morning and evening service is expected, however “room service” knocked my door at 8-9pm every evening. If the door is not locked, they enter the room. I would advise to have the “do not disturb” sign on at all times, should you want some rest. Breakfast - not included. Even to use the coffee machine in the room, you have to pay for the capsules. It’s not about money, it just leaves a bad impression I think. The room - nice, good facilities, nice bed, shower and the beach view lovely from the large terrace. Panoramic view of Copacabana, as long as the room is on a higher floor. The pool/beach - haven’t used the pool but the beach is service is very good, friendly and helpful staff and comfortable sun beds. In conclusion, I won’t be returning. I have been to Rio many times and there are much better places to stay in various areas. Although Emiliano looks nice, they are a far cry from what I experienced in other hotels in terms of hospitality and adjusting to individual needs and expectations. I didn’t feel treated like a valued customer and I felt quite uncomfortable throughout my stay.

Arrival: a good experience, friendly, funny, warm and quick. Complimentary sparkling wine. They immediately tried to upsell to a junior suite, at an extra £250 per night. We declined. Room: It’s looks stunning. A decent size. Incredible shower, impractical bath. Zero zero zero space for clothes, bar a small hanging rail - this isn’t acceptable for a hotel or this standard. We ended up putting all our clothes on the sofa. Good technology. Great mirrors. Incredible towels. Lovely toiletries. Great cleaning attendants. Breakfast: good service, but slow. Food arrived before a simple glass of orange juice. Food average, plated awkwardly. Pastries stale. They did try to accommodate a fussy eater, which was nice. Gym: small, and ok equipped. No barbell and limited free weights. Friendly staff. Great views. Pool: nice view, comfortable seating. Service generally poor - low levels of English, no greeting (they immediately ask for your room number, like you shouldn’t be there). We ordered 3 different wines, and each time they came back saying it was out of stock. If that’s the case, they should know when you order. Luciano however, was a great friendly staff. We’d stay again, but wouldn’t want to pay rack rate. We’re still here, see how the next 24 hours goes 👍

We first stayed by the beach for a few days then relocated up to Santa Teresa and I couldn't have been more pleased with that decision. Both we great, and necessary. The neighborhood is a slower pace of life and so much less hectic. The hotel is most certainly an urban oasis. Lush foliage adorns the grounds, the small pool is intimate and overlooks Centro Rio, the pool bar is also great. The rooms are rustic and farm like. Haters would say the bathrooms are a bit cramped but the room itself was spacious and had a nice veranda overlooking the city. A/C is freezing in a good way. Bed was comfy as were the pillows. Turn down service with cookie and chocolates was nice. The iced coffee in the lobby made with orange juice is very refreshing and energizing. The location is close to many bars and restaurants. Safety was never and issue and the staff is as helpful as they are delightful. Breakfast was nice. On the weekends they had cool activities like a seafood bbq, morning yoga, and our favorite a free local tour given an amazing woman Cecilia who lives in the immediate area. If you like to walk and enjoy history, it's a must and only takes 1.5 hours.

A group of uni friends and I spent three nights at this wonderful hotel. It is well located (if no traffic, very close to the airport and away from the overly touristic Copacabana). The setting is tranquil and zen, and nothing is too much trouble for the very attentive staff. There is a top-notch restaurant on site where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served over panoramic views. It happened to be my birthday on one of the days of my stay - Karolina, and the restaurant staff made it extra special with a handwritten card and some cake. Stayed in Room 29 - no complaints. Lovely views. Only slight concern is noise from the adjoining room can sometimes be heard.

Being an ambassador level with Marriott tells you I travel a lot. We stayed at the JW for five days and loved the location, right in the middle of Copacabana beach. The hotel does need a little updating but the staff and lounge more than made up for it. The one person who really made our trip was Thais Silva from guest relations. She was on top of everything, if something was not right, she made it right. Not only did she go above and beyond but she really cared. Thanks again for making our stay in Rio a truly memorable one.

The hotel rooms are - as described below, dumpy and outdated. The service is great. The food is great. The gym is convenient. The pool is nice enough and could do with a refit. The location is amazing. All the reviews below are pretty right. All in all it’s a nice place just don’t expect amazing rooms.

nice location I enjoyed my stay hotel has it's own beach outdoor swimming pool amazing little bit food availabilityissues hotel management should provide food price list to their clients living inside hotel because as a foreigner what I found they charge me extra plus dollar exchange inside hotel give such a high price and same nonice exchange rates and hotel denied to take any responsibility rate was very bad then why hotel gave permission that company to do work there doesn't makes any sense staff was good and humbled.

Some old facilities are still trapped in the elevator. It takes about 10 minutes for maintenance personnel to arrive at the environment. Breakfast fruit is a bright spot.
